Teen Dies After Being Shot In Face While Handling Gun With Girl In Bridgeport, Police Say

A teenager has died after he was shot in the face while he and another teen were handling a gun in Fairfield County, according to authorities.

The 16-year-old boy died on Monday, Sept. 11 in Bridgeport following the incident on Saturday, Sept. 9 in the bedroom of a home in the 300 block of Pacific Street.

According to Capt. Kevin Gilleran of the Bridgeport Police, responding officers found the teen shot in the face.

The teen was transported to the hospital where he was admitted into the intensive care unit before being pronounced dead, Gilleran said.

The boy's identity has not yet been released.

The preliminary investigation suggests the teen, along with a  15-year-old girl, were both handling a firearm inside a bedroom at the residence when it discharged, causing a critical injury to the teen, Gilleran said.

"This was a tragic and isolated incident," Gilleran said. "The Police Department’s thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of this young victim."
